Description

“On Becoming a Woman” satirizes views on lesbianism held by many health experts in the 1950’s. The video takes the form of an instructional film that might have been used with adolescent girls approaching womanhood. “On Becoming a Woman” warns viewers about dangerous situations that can develop when one girl gets a crush on a woman or other female friend. (Re-edited with additional scenes shot, fall 2001.) “On Becoming a Woman” has won two awards at international festivals; it also won a Bronze Telly and was a finalist for New York Festivals competition.
