Punkin' Chuckin'
From Faust
If you've never considered the Punkin' Chuckin' before, here's how it works:
- Entrants save their Halloween pumpkins until the event, which is the first Sunday after Halloween. This year, it's on November 5th so we're expecting some nice, juicy pumpkins.
- Each pumpkin is weighed, the entrant gives us the name of their entry, and a number.
- The pumpkins are judged for their "beauty" and the artistic skill shown in the carving.
- The pumpkins are then tossed for distance where they usually are smashed to pieces. Because we want this to be a fair event, the distance is scored no more than 30 feet, and the weight is factored into it, so you don't have to be a superhero. We also try to judge the throw on athletic form.
- After the toss, we like to hear a little speech about the pumpkin or the toss, or whatever the entrant would like to say. This also enters into the score.
- All of this is factored into a score, which governs the awarding of prizes- which are cheesy prizes, of course, this being a rat-run organization. At any time you can attempt to bribe or otherwise influence the judges; this may or may not have an effect.
Other than that, you can use your creativity however you see fit.
We've had pumpkins entered and tossed by two people in partnership; we've had 4 year olds win on distance; we've had pumpkins you couldn't stand to smell and pumpkins that would make you cry when they smashed because they were so nice to look at beforehand.
